Samtskhe-Javakheti is a high-mountainous region of Georgia.
Previously, it was a huge area, but in the era of ancient wars about two thirds of it remained.

The largest city and regional center of Samtskhe-Javakheti is the city of Akhaltsikhe. It is located in the southern part of the region near the border. The city has a number of interesting sights.

Outside the district center you can also find a lot of interesting things.

Special mention deserves the resort of Abastumani and the Abastuman Observatory. The resort is unique in that there are pines. The yellow pollen of these pines has a very beneficial effect on the respiratory tract. People come here to be treated for tuberculosis.
