Sataplia

Natural reserve Sataplia

A bit of history

Sataplia can be translated as “a place for honey.” This reserve got its name because here wild bees built their honeycombs on a mountainside and flowed down a steep rock. Now under this place is built an observation deck. At the place where the honey flowed down, you can see and take pictures.
The main attraction in the reserve are fossilized dinosaur footprints. During a recent renovation, all the sights were protected from the weather. Everywhere built beautiful pavilions with convenient paths for visitors.

How to get to Sataplia?

Sataplia is located seven kilometers from the city of Kutaisi. You can get there either by taxi or with a guided tour.
In the first case, it is better to take the phone from the driver and call after the tour to be picked up.
As a rule, excursion groups enter the park every half hour. Each group has a guide who talks about the park in several languages.

Going to Sataplia, keep in mind that you have to walk a lot. The excursion route is quite long, by the way, the final part is the ascent to the observation deck.
In principle, the whole journey is fairly easy, the main thing is not to hurry.
We recommend shoes with flat soles.
Even if it is very hot, be sure to take outerwear with you. In the cave only +15 degrees. The route of the excursion is constructed in such a way that you cannot pass through the cave.
