Mgvimebi monastery is located near city called Chiatura. This woman monastery was founded in XIII century. It is famous for it’s unique architecture.
Monastery was built in natural 35 meter (100 ft) cavern and has several premises.
To enter central hall of monastery, you should climb high stone stairs. Other premises are accessible through stone corridors from main hall.
Monastery doorways are covered with ancient paintings that conserved surprisingly well.
Due to it’s unusual architecture Mgvimebi monastery is very important part of ancient Georgian heritage.
