Tamar the Great’s bridge

There are lots of bridges in Adjara region. Bridges here always played key role in economics. It’s because Ajdara is located on crossroad of northern province trade routes that go to Turkey.
Tamar the Great’s bridge was built on river Acharistskali during Georgian Renaissance.
Bridge itself is unique architectural building that harmonically fits in with surrounding natural beauty as long as does it’s primary function.
Construction is 28 meters (84 feet) long and is raised 8 meters (24 feet) above river level. It is built completely with stone, which made it so durable it time and allowed bridge to withstand many earthquakes.
Georgian government always cared about this monument and all necessary repairs been made. Most recent repairs were conducted in 2008.
Even today bridge astonishes visitors.
